The Home Based Primary Care team from McGuire VAMC

By Public Affairs
Friday, April 22, 2011

Two days a month, the Mobile Outreach team from McGuire VA Medical Center heads toward the Northern Neck of Virginia to provide medical care and services to senior Veterans living in rural areas. The Northern Neck of Virginia covers Lancaster County, Northumberland County, Warsaw, Tappahannock, Richmond County, Saluda and surrounding areas.

The outreach team is part of McGuire’s Home Based Primary Care Unit (HBPC). The team uses a 40’ mobile clinic which is outfitted to perform most of the same functions as you would see at your local doctor’s office.

“Veterans unable to make the 55 mile trip to McGuire VA Medical Center in Richmond can opt, to receive much of their care on the mobile clinic, say Worth Kenyon, Program Coordinator.”    “I just walked up because I heard the clinic was coming and I’m glad I came,” says Mr. Barron Nelson, WWII Veteran. Since the establishment of the Mobile Team, the mobile clinic patient list continues to grow.
