Did you know that 41% of Veterans live in rural areas?  For this reason, the Rural Health Outreach team from McGuire VAMC will be heading back to this year’s Virginia State Fair to provide health education and enrollment services to Veterans not enrolled for VA healthcare.

Last year, the team engaged new Veterans from across central Virginia. “Many of the men and women we provided services to didn’t know they were eligible for benefits said Charles Johnson, Enrollment Specialist.”
The Fair offers rides, carnival games, concerts, and typical Fair foods such as corn dogs, cotton candy, and funnel cakes as well as Virginia favorites such as barbecue, chicken and peanuts.

The Fair also offers technological, agricultural, historical, and livestock exhibitions and competitions, including pig races. Several of the competitions offer scholarships to students that compete.

McGuire VAMC has been working diligently to provide rural Veterans with greater access to health care. We are committed to providing excellent care to every Veteran who honorably served this Nation.
