Joining the Rural Health Initiative Program is Oliver Futrell, Medical Support Assistant. Oliver, a six year Army Veteran will play a key role in assisting Veterans with the enrollment process for VA healthcare and health education when the team attends outreach events in local/rural communities.
“My role as the Medical Support Assistant is an important one on the team. Primarily, my responsibility is to process new applications for VA healthcare and ensure the Veteran is assigned a primary care provider. As a Veteran, I’m in a great position to be an advocate for all Veterans and it motivates and inspires me to be of assistance to others.”
Oliver comes from a family of soldiers and that experience will serve him well as he meets our men and women that have served in the military during outreach events. “We are excited about the experience Oliver brings to the team says Sharon Rhone, Rural Health Integrator.” He has work worked with the Department of Veterans Affairs previously at the CBOC in Lawton, OK. Before joining our team he was a Manager for Wal-Mart and a Social Worker with the Oklahoma Department of Human Services.
The Rural Health Initiative Program have participated in over 88 outreach events to provide health education and enrollment services to Veterans living in rural communities. The team has touched the lives of over 1372 veterans and their families through outreach events. Veterans are receiving enrollment services, VA benefits information, health education and other services.
The team will be participating in Mosby Court Community Day August 20th from 10am – 2pm. Please stop by and say hello to Oliver.
