Staff at the Medical Center donate blood during at recent visit by Virginia Blood Services.

The medical center regularly scheduled blood drive was held earlier this week. The drives are scheduled quarterly in the medical center’s Multipurpose Room.

Starting early in the morning the Virginia Blood Services (VBS) began unloading their blood mobile with supplies for the blood drive  Donors began arriving by 7am and at the conclusion of the day, staff members, patients and visitors had donated 86 units!

Some interesting facts about donation:
• Our medical center transfuses ~400 units of blood and blood products each month.
• ~37% of the population is medically eligible to donate but fewer than 10% do.
• Within 24 hours after donation, your blood volume is restored.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone at the next blood drive August 24th and 25th.
