For over a decade, Richmond VAMC has participated in the VFW Virginia State Convention. This year’s meeting will take place June 9th – 12th at the Ramada Plaza Richmond West Hotel.
Each year, hundreds of delegates and officers convene to elect new national officers, vote on organizational by-laws and attend VFW workshops geared to inform members of the latest trends on topics ranging from female veterans' needs to maintaining a successful VFW Post.
Staff from the Medical Center’s Health Administration Services (HAS), MyhealtheVet Program and the Rural Health Initiative; team up to provide a health fair for Veterans attending the convention. Demonstrations will show Veterans how to incorporate healthy activities and a balanced diet into their everyday lives. For new Veterans not enrolled for VA care, an Enrollment Specialist will be on hand to assist with the application process and to answer questions.
“Last year, many Post Commanders were able to schedule health education seminars and community outreach events with the Rural Health team during the Convention said Charles Johnson, Enrollment Specialist.” The Rural Health team provides health education and enrollment services to Veterans living in rural areas throughout the year.
