Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center - Richmond, VA

Recently, Veterans, family members and the OEF/OIF/OND team from McGuire VAMC participated in two days of awe-inspiring NASCAR racing.
Before the races Veterans had the opportunity to enjoy the Dogwood Suite VIP area tour the pit area with their complimentary passes and meet legendary driver Richard Petty.

Mr. Petty visited through the crowd and interacted with many of the Veterans, posing for pictures and chatting with their family members. Veterans also met several other NASCAR drivers for autograph sessions.

“What a wonderful way to recognize those men and women coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan, said Lynn Anderson, OEF/OIF/OND Program Manager.”

The team worked closely with Checkered Flag Foundation founder, NASCAR driver Brad Keselowski's  (CFF), Race 2 Recovery (R2R) to make this event possible. Veterans were also able to ride along with Brad Keselowski in the R2R NASCAR on Sunday.

The goal of the Foundation is to recognize OEF/OIF/OND Veterans that were injured and who have persevered beyond their illness or injury.
