2012 Memorial Day Program at Richmond VAMC

Veterans, family members, volunteers, staff and community members joined together for the annual Memorial Day service for our Nation’s Heroes at McGuire VA Medical Center.

The ceremony was held on the main stage of the south mall atrium and paid tribute to those men and women of the military who have lost their lives in defense our country.

The Presentation of the Colors was performed by the Lonesome Dove Equestrian Center Drill Team which consisted of three mounted horsemen assisted by Boy Scouts of America Troop 411 of Swansboro Baptist Church.  The mounted riders included Veterans Steven S. Williams, Lance Corporal, USMC, David R. Buckley, Cpl. US Army, and Larry Davis, US Navy.

“Today we memorialize and say thank you to those brave men and women who have given all; that we can have so much”, said Chaplin Dewane Stone, Chief of Chaplin Services.

The Honorable John H. Hager, former Lieutenant Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, provided keynote remarks for the program.
Following the keynote speaker, a wreath was placed in honor and memory of all Veterans, by James E. Compton, (Ret Cpl.) USMC and his wife Anita. The musical prelude was performed by the John Marshall Alumni Band, Classes of 1942 – 1965.

Monday May 28th at 3:00pm, the National Moment of Remembrance encourages all Americans to pause wherever they are for a moment of silence to remember and honor those who died in service to our Nation.
