Several Richmond area wheelchair athletes took part in a demonstration of wheel chair sports today during an event showcasing the upcoming 32nd National Veterans Wheelchair Games in Richmond, June 25-30.

With less than a month away for the start of the 32nd National Veterans Wheelchair Games, several Richmond area athletes participated in a demonstration of wheel chair sports today to help educated staff and the community about vision/purpose behind the National Veterans Wheelchair Games.

Three of our athletes have participated in the Games since its inception in 1981. This year, Jimmy May will compete in basketball, table tennis, bowling and billiards. Wannie (Ike) Cook will compete on the obstacle course, billiards and table tennis while Charlie Hayden will compete in bowling, billiards and air rifle.

“I would like to thank the VA for their partnership in making the National Veterans Wheelchair Games a premier sporting event for Veterans, said Charlie Hayden.” This event helps Veterans with Spinal Cord Injuries, Amputations, Multiple Sclerosis and other conditions that require the use of a wheelchair for mobility.

Veterans from across the country and even a team from Puerto Rico and Great Brittan are excited to come to Richmond and compete in this incredible event and explore our rich community.

To be successful, we need over 3000 volunteers.  If you can assist by giving your time in any way, you will make a difference! For more information about the Games, go to www.richmond.va.gov.
