"You Make the Difference" is the theme for this week of celebration and recognition. The theme highlights the way nephrology nurses use their vision, knowledge, and skills to improve patient outcomes. They touch lives every day and make a positive difference in the lives of patients and their families. Individuals with kidney failure rely on the skills, knowledge, and expertise of nephrology nurses to ensure the safety and effectiveness of their life-saving care.

The Richmond VA Dialysis Unit has 19 nurses, with over 200 years of experience, who provide care to our Nation’s Heroes.  Services range from a home hemodialysis program to kidney transplant follow up care.

According to the National Kidney Foundation 26 million persons have chronic kidney disease and most of them are unaware that they have kidney disease. If you have diabetes or hypertension you are at risk for the disease. Early detection is the key to prevent the progression of kidney disease to kidney failure. Recommendations to reduce your risks of kidney disease are to see your physician, lose weight and control your blood pressure and start an exercise routine. In Virginia, a little over nine thousand people are on dialysis.
