McGuire Helps Improve Veterans’ Access to Prostate Cancer Care - Veterans from around the country have come to McGuire VA Medical Center for brachytherapy treatment, which cures aggressive forms of prostate cancer. Veterans from Michigan, Minnesota, Indiana, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, and many other places have come to Richmond and benefited from this program. This program improves access for Veterans with prostate cancer in areas that are underserved. (03/01/2017)

Innovators Network Lands at McGuire VAMC - The McGuire VA Medical Center recently joined a nationwide network of innovation to bring new ideas from front-line staff to the forefront. The program essentially provides funding and training for development of ideas that improve the Veteran experience and the experiences of caregivers and supporters. (02/24/2017)

McGuire VAMC Celebrates Heart Surgeon’s Impactful Career - Dr. Szentpetery is retiring after more than 30 years as a heart transplant doctor. He started the heart transplant program at McGuire and has performed hundreds of transplants here. He has also trained many of the area’s surgeons over the years. (01/03/2017)

McGuire VA Doctor recently published in New York Times article offers Info ahead of World Osteoporos - Dr. Robert A. Adler is Chief of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Professor of Internal Medicine and of Epidemiology at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in Richmond. He received his MD and internal medicine training at Johns Hopkins and did his endocrinology fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital and Walter Reed Army Medical Center. (10/03/2016)

McGuire VA Medical Center Opens new wing for Veterans - McGuire VA Medical Center is pleased to announce the Ribbon Cutting for a 14,300 square-foot inpatient medical unit that is newly renovated to include 21 private rooms, including two isolation rooms and one bariatric room. (09/30/2016)

Ride 2 Recovery to visit McGuire VAMC - Richmond VAMC is hosting 150 cyclists, 10 support vehicles, and six motorcycles from Ride 2 Recovery. Ride 2 Recovery is a non-profit cycling group who supports returning service members and encourages Veterans to live their best life through cycling. They will visit McGuire VAMC for 30 minutes as they complete their Memorial Day Challenge. The group began their journey in Arlington, VA on Monday, and will end their trip in Williamsburg, VA. McGuire First Medical Center in Va. and in VHA to Use a New Cancer Treatment Device - The Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center (VAMC) in Richmond, Virginia is now using a new tool that is proven to improve the quality of care for prostate cancer patients who are undergoing radiation therapy. Since September 2015, cancer doctors at McGuire have been treating prostate cancer patients with radiation therapy using the SpaceOAR® hydrogel. They were the first in the state of Virginia and in all of Veteran Health Administration (VHA) to offer this procedure. (04/01/2016)

Richmond VAMC Hosts Annual Veterans Day Program - Richmond VAMC will have a Veterans Day Program featuring the Ft. Lee Colonial Brass Quintet and the Ft. Lee Color Guard. Our keynote speaker will be University of Richmond Chancellor, Dr. Bruce Heilman. Dr. Heilman became Chancellor at the University of Richmond October 1, 1988 after serving as President and Chief Executive Officer for approximately 17 years. Dr. Heilman is a Marine Veteran who served during the World War II Pacific Campaign. (11/06/2015)

Redskins OL Morgan Moses Visits Richmond VAMC - On Monday, November 9, Offensive Lineman, Morgan Moses of the Washington Redskins will visit Veterans at the Richmond VAMC. Mr. Moses will meet and greet Veterans on the Polytrauma and Spinal Cord Injury units. (11/06/2015)

McGuire Veterans to Help Homeless Veterans Through Art - McGuire VA Medical Center Veterans were invited to participate in the “Find Art Doors,” a city-wide art campaign to repurpose 40 doors from Virginia Supportive Housing into interactive public art. As a part of their therapy program, Veterans are creating a patriotic themed art piece on a household door. The doors will be installed throughout the city over the course of the summer culminating in an auction in October 2015. (06/10/2015)

On-Site Filming for VA Innovation Creation Series - The Assistive Technology Program at the Richmond VAMC will host a film crew on site to document a curated list of challenge areas facing Veterans with disabilities for the VA Innovation Creation Series. These challenges will then be posted on Innocentive and GrabCad, which are both online open innovation challenge sites, from May to July. Designers, engineers, and all other solvers can contribute initial design solutions based on the expressed needs and challenges. (04/21/2015)
