Driving Asssessment

Driving assessment is an important factor in the rehabilitation process.

Wednesday, November 17, 2010

Driving is a significant activity for many Veterans. Eric Bland, Kinesiotherapist  and Driver Rehabilitation Specialist at the Richmond VA Medical Center utilizes a driving simulator for a Functional Driving Assessment which provides definitive, objective information so there is an accurate assessment of a Veteran’s ability to drive. With the FDA, the Veteran can “drive” in different kinds of traffic and weather conditions without getting on the road while measuring many different driving tasks.

The device is useful for patients who may have suffered a physical injury, illness or some other condition that may inhibit the ability to drive safely. Eric Bland notes that, “ the best part of the assessment process is when we help Veterans regain their independence.”
